The objective of D03 is the mathematical analysis of the models used for predicting the evolution of particle size / shape distributions in synthesis and chromatography. Model simplifications and efficient numerical and optimisation schemes are derived. Stochastic, nonlinear and nonlocal effects will be investigated. Stochastic effects occur in the models in terms of non-idealities such as growth rate dispersion and locally varying stationary phase material properties. Nonlinear and nonlocal effects influence nanoparticle diffusion at high concentrations and chromatographic separation as nonlinear and nonlocal isotherms, but are also relevant for predicting continuous particle formation processes.
