Project Details
Continuous flow synthesis of patchy particles with designed resonances and interactions (A03)
Subject Area
Mechanical Process Engineering
Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 416229255
The objective of A03 is the fabrication of partially metal-coated dielectric particles, known as "patchy particles" with defined patch size and structure using a continuous flow process, with a new focus on defects and stability. The synthesis will be automated, spectroscopic measurement of the patchy particle resonances used as input to a feedback loop to adjust the reagent concentrations so that material with a predicted colour is produced. Using the patch as a subsequently removable mask during functionalisation will result in spherical particles with patchy surface chemistry, which will be studied regarding their anisotropic interactions, their arrangement at liquid interfaces and used to produce supraparticles for chromatography.
