Project Details
Modelling transport of nanoparticles (D02)
Subject Area
Statistical Physics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Complex Systems, Soft and Fluid Matter, Biological Physics
Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 416229255
The objective of D02 is to understand the transport properties of nanoparticles confined by porous structures. By means of mesoscopic simulations, we will bridge the gap between atomistic molecular dynamics simulations, experimental investigation of nanoparticle diffusion and macroscopic, effective models and experiments. We will extend the work of the first funding period on individual or few pores towards pore-resolved simulations of pore ensembles and even large-scale realistic geometries obtained from tomography. This approach will provide fundamental understanding of the underlying transport processes and allow to develop coarse-grained pore-network models to address full chromatographic columns.
