Hannover (LUH) and École normale supérieure (ENS) Paris-Saclay focus on collaborative research on cutting-edge simulation methods in computational mechanics. A major goal is the development of sophisticated model order reduction methods with special emphasis on non-linear and highdimensional problems. The corresponding research programme is divided into three core areas: a) problems in high-dimensional parametric and stochastic spaces, b) multi-scale problems in space and time, and c) data augmented simulations. The groups of seven PIs at each of the two institutions consist of well-known experts in their field of research who have established productive collaborations amongst each other. In particular, strong partnerships between German and French scientists have been developed in previous collaborative programmes. Individual topics for doctoral research have been chosen in close collaboration, such that each doctoral researcher is advised by at least two PIs, one from the German and one from the French side. Thus, we merge the specific expertise from both groups for conducting scientific research at an internationally competitive level. A team-oriented doctoral training program within an international and interdisciplinary environment is targeted. In particular, it is structured into three phases: a) training on general research skills and scientific teamwork, b) specific training to prepare doctoral researchers for their individual research, and c) the independent research phase. A six month stay abroad at the partner institution is mandatory for each doctoral researcher, supplemented by additional support for those who would like to graduate with a double degree. Postdocs as well as Master students are integrated into the research programme. For postdocs, a tailor-made support programme is implemented that prepares them for their future career steps in industry or academia.
