Hochschule Geisenheim University (HGU) supports the further development of the principle of open access to scientific knowledge (Open Access paradigm) with the aim of achieving the greatest possible benefit for science and society. Results from research projects generated by members of the HGU are to be made publicly available to the scientific community, the economy and society as barrier-free as possible for reuse. The goal of HGU is therefore to encourage and financially support its researchers in publishing research results in accordance with the principles of the Open Access paradigm. Therefore, a financial subsidy is requested by the DFG as part of the funding program "Open Access Publishing" in order to financially support the publication fees of open access journals. The aim of HGU is to significantly increase the current share of open access publications in the total volume of publications, while at the same time ensuring quality assurance of the standards of good scientific practice. By the end of 2021, 40% of all publications in journals with peer review procedures and impact factor should be available in the form of open access. This target quota is to increase by a further 5% for each subsequent publication year, up to a target of at least 60% open access publications at the end of 2025 (end of the planned funding period by the DFG).
