Thin film synthesis and modelling will be performed to develop a magnetic prototype material with magnetic properties equivalent to the SmCo-type. La and Ce (so-called free REEs) together with Fe will be integrated into nanostructured as well as epitaxial thin films. The spin and orbital contributions of each element will experimentally be determined together with projects A03/B05 and compared to predictions based on ab-initio DFT calculations (project A05). The defect structure and phase decomposition effects will be determined (projects Z01, Z02) and their hysteresis mechanisms will be clarified (project A06). The results will be compared with single crystal and bulk results (projects A01, A08). Magnetic information by Kerr microscopy (project A01) and neutron scattering (project A12) will also be obtained.
