The structural characterization of substances and reaction products is an essential element of excellent chemical research. Modern NMR spectroscopy is indispensable in modern chemistry. All NMR instruments at the Friedrich Schiller University are organized in a large instrument platform, which offers a central contact point for NMR measurements and scientific advice at the Jena location. In order to create the necessary measurement capabilities for both current organic and inorganic chemistry research, the acquisition of a precisely configured 500MHz NMR spectrometer will enable the processing of systems that have so far been inadequately characterized and thus effectively strengthen Jena as a scientific location. By expanding the measuring capacities and indirectly improving the configuration possibilities of existing instruments, time-consuming and research-intensive analyses of biochemical samples will be enabled. This instrument will sustainably increase the productivity of the NMR platform as a whole, further improve the cooperation capability of the working groups and the chemical institutes and their third-party funding capability, and offer young scientists significantly improved qualification opportunities.Furthermore, it will purposeful support projects in running cooperative research centers (e.g. SFB1127 "ChemBioSys", SFB1278 "PolyTarget", TRR234 "Catalight") and in the cluster of excellence "Balance of the Microverse" funded by the DFG. These projects lead to increasingly complex research questions in the NMR spectroscopy at the University of Jena, which are to be answered with the help of the device applied for.
