Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 430593850
The aim of this application is to acquire an analytical multi-parameter high-end flow cytometer. There is a need for a device to characterize stem cells and other rare cell types with up to 30 parameters. Such a flow cytometer is up to now neither available at the University of Heidelberg and its hospital nor on the university campus hosting additional science institutions not being part of the university. The described scientific projects contain very complex antibody panels, which cannot be processed by analytical standard 3-laser machines. There is a need for big antibody panels to get information as much as possible due to the fact that the cell numbers in the samples to be analyzed are very limited. Additional multi-parameter analysis gives a better insight to diverse cell populations. There is just a limited number of machines on the market fulfilling these needs. Additionally, there are not yet enough fluorescent dyes commercialized to use these flow cytometers at full range.
