In the manufacturing of structural components for the aerospace industry, the challenge is to produce very large products with relatively low wall thickness while maintaining high dimen-sional and surface requirements. Quality issues that are only discovered during the quality control, which takes place after the production process, lead to high quantity of rejects or high rework costs. In the Priority Programme 1480, a model, which allows to predict and compen-sate the thermally- and mechanically-induced deformations in the machining of complex structural components and the associated shape deviations, was developed in interdisciplinary cooperation. Within the scope of the proposed Knowledge Transfer, the scientific results of the Priority Programme 1480 are adapted and transferred for the optimization of the manu-facturing process of the company Premium AEROTEC GmbH. After completion of the pro-ject, it will be possible for Premium AEROTEC to predict the production quality of structural components more precisely and to adapt the toolpaths accordingly. This reduces costs through rejects and necessary rework.
