Project Details
Q-Band EPR-Spectrometer
Subject Area
Chemical Solid State and Surface Research
Term
Funded in 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 428518900
The requested spectrometer will be used in (1) structural biology for distance measurements between nitroxide spin labels covalently attached to proteins, for example to elucidate: changes in conformation during the reaction cycle of HSP90; the mechanism of polymerisation of α1 Anti-Trypsin; the structure of intrinsically disordered regions such as the cytosolic domain of Sbh1; (2) medicine for identifying biologically important radicals in cells in vitro and in vivo including hydroxylated Coenzyme Q derivatives and characterizing proteins that utilize transition metal ions; (3.1) chemistry to study photo-excited states of chromophores for organic light emitting diodes and solar cells and (3.2) to characterize paramagnetic states of aromatic silicon compounds; (4) physics for the characterisation of colour centres in diamond to assist in the development of masers and to explore new areas of cavity quantum electrodynamics.
