This subproject addresses problems in computational and numerical mathematics with great practical relevance. The different applications range from magnetic storage devices and magnetic sensors to embedded systems and they all have in common that they can be mathematically described by the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) equation coupled with the Maxwell equations. The project will develop efficient algorithms based on space-time discretizations, neural networks, and adaptive approximation. The algorithms will be analyzed on a theoretical level and applied in realistic problem settings. We also plan to extend the model for achieving its relativistic invariance so that the interaction with light can be treated more consistently. Such an extension will give rise to new fields of application.
