Adaptive remodeling of ribosome composition and function in response to metabolic changes and cellular stress (B06)

The ribosome is a large machinery that translates the genetic information into function. Originally considered to be an invariable entity of ribosomal proteins and rRNA that together with translation factors sustain protein synthesis, there is increasing evidence for ribosome heterogeneity that facilitates the dynamic amendment of protein synthesis and ribosome-associated processes to different metabolic and environmental conditions. We aim to study the modulation of ribosomal activity by association with different proteins and to analyse their role in the adaption of bacteria to adverse conditions.
