Project Details
Enzyme cooperativity in the biosynthesis of antibiotics and their cellular target structures (B06)
Subject Area
Biological and Biomimetic Chemistry
Term
from 2019 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 398967434
The cooperativity of enzymes is important for many biosynthetic processes. In this project, enzyme cooperativity will be studied for various biosynthetic machineries of antibiotics or their cellular target structures. We will investigate how cooperativity is organized in the cell focusing on the interaction between enzymes in three main systems: 1) phosphopantetheinyl transferases and carrier proteins in PKS/NRPS biosynthesis, 2) cytochromes P450 and redox partner proteins in terpene biosynthesis, and 3) alanine racemase and D-Ala-D-Ala ligase in cell wall biosynthesis.
