The project widens the scope of the research conducted in “Literature and the Market” by adding a comparative perspective and broadening the field of inquiry to include the global anglophone literary marketplace. We consider the nature of the competition within the European market, especially the legal, cultural and economic status of “national literature” in relation to English-language imports. We also analyze the dynamics of “national literature”, funding mechanisms and prestige in the global anglophone market, for instance regarding postcolonial cultural formations and migrant literature.
