Single Crystal X-ray Diffractometer

Subject Area Molecular Chemistry
Term Funded in 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 424176962

Single-crystal X-ray diffraction is the most efficient and important structural analysis method in chemistry and is of crucial importance for many workgroups at the Institute of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the FU Berlin. From the currently available two devices only one matches the state of the art requirements for single-crystal structure analysis. Therefore a replacement device is necessary to allow the research groups at the FU Berlin to continue their work on an international level. An old diffractometer will be sorted out before the end of this year and it is therefore necessary to organize a new replacement device. In question are devices with novel detectors, which also allow the mounting of extremely sensitive crystals and allow the collection of high-resolution data sets for the experimental charge density determination. Since the device will be available via the core facility "single-crystal structure analysis" for all synthetic research groups, one MoKα and one CuKα microfocus X-ray tube should be provided to allow the investigation of very small crystals. Measurement temperatures up to -173 °C should be made possible by a low-temperature unit.
