The large device treated in this application is intended to enable the preparation and, above all, the characterization of the scattering centers. The device consists of three main components: 1. a production unit for the production of nuclear spin polarized samples using a parawasserstdoff generator, 2. a sample characterization unit whose main components are a nuclear magnetic resonance apparatus and a series of different, highly sensitive magnetometers, and 3. a process control unit that controls the transport of the spin polarized material in the antiproton beam in FAIR should be under constant control of the polarization of the sample. High-performance portable magnetometers are used for this purpose.
