The Bavarian State Library has one of the largest newspaper collections in Germany. The historically grown newspaper collection comprises a total of about 5,250 titles. Bavarian newspapers and official journals in particular have been collected extensively since the beginnings in the 17th century. The aim of the project is the digitisation and full text indexing of the "Münchner Neueste Nachrichten" from 1875 to 1933: it is an outstanding, long-lived daily newspaper and at the same time the predecessor of the "Süddeutsche Zeitung".Since the digitisation of the "Münchner Neueste Nachrichten" is to include full text capture in addition to structural data capture at issue level, its online availability is expected to provide an important, additional impetus for academic work. At the end of the project, the results shall be integrated into relevant resource-specific portals.
