Spunbond-Meltblown (SM)-bicomponent facility

Subject Area Materials Science
Term Funded in 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 420093379

Until now, the Department of Polymer Materials used an existing spun bond equipment as a starting point for research on the modeling of polymer melts and their flow behavior, on the spinnability and processing of materials and additives, and on the solidification. This system can currently spin only one component and cannot be easily extended due to its design. However, for the research on bicomponent fiber systems, the production of ultrafine filaments of two components with new geometries such as core-sheath systems or pie structures and the development of functional nano fleece, it is necessary to have a bicomponent system with a spunbond and meltblown (SM) part. Only by using these manufacturing processes and by utilizing special distributor plates it is possible to manufacture nanofibers of different geometries. The tool of choice is therefore an easy-to-configure SM bicomponent system with tailor-made extruders, selected distributor plates and precisely specified additional components such as an adaptable cooling tunnel, calender and conveyor belt from a company with extensive experience in the production of bi-component systems.
