High-Speed Particle Image Velocimetry System for Aerodynamic Applications

The objective of the current proposal is to procure a particle-image velocimetry system capable of high-speed, two- and three-dimensional, stereoscopic measurements of the velocity field in a variety of aerodynamic applications. The chosen system was selected to enable polyvalent velocity measurements for several research projects initiated by the Chair of Aerodynamics at TU Berlin. Examples of research projects in which the measurement system will be used are: the optimization of actuators for boundary-layer separation control on aircraft wings, the investigation of low-frequency dynamics in turbulent, separated flows, and the aerodynamics of multi-body, long endurance aircrafts.
