The aim of the project is to provide a modern descriptive catalogue of medieval manuscripts which are owned by the Public Library of Lübeck. This makes a significant part of the city library's stock accessible to a large number of researchers from different disciplines. The first part of the project dealt with 72 codices of all 362. In the second part 72 manuscripts will be described again. The description follows the guideline standards set by the German Research Foundation (DFG) including full and detailed descriptions of the important codicological matters (binding, clasps, fittings, waste papers, layout, illumination, watermarks), of the palaeography and of the origin and provenance of the codex. The XML-encoding of the manuscript descriptions provided will be the basis for the printed catalogue and the online publications in the local manuscript database of the Herzog August Library and in the central databases Manuscripta Mediaevalia and Handschriftenportal.
