Our Milky Way has a dust-obscured barred pseudobulge with a highly complex, multiple-component structure. Particularly its old components are poorly known. We will use mainly RR Lyrae stars from the OGLE-IV and VVVX time-domain surveys as genuinely old tracers whose light curves provide distances and metallicity information, proper motions from these long-base-line surveys and Gaia, and radial velocities and detailed elemental abundances from SDSS-V, which we plan to join through CRC funds, to explore the early kinematic and chemical evolution of the inner parts of the Milky Way, revealing the role of early mergers and constraining Galactic formation models.
