Project B4|Braun/Riedel aims to prepare amorphous superacidic aluminum fluoride derivatives to be used as heterogeneous catalysts for the activation of small molecules and the defluorination of highly fluorinated mole-cules. The incorporation of teflate groups (teflate = OTeF5) triggers structural defects in the aluminum fluoride particles, leading to high amorphicity and strong Lewis acidity. This requires the development of synthetic routes to aluminum- and silicon-based molecular teflate compounds and clusters, which are used as precursors for the preparation of new materials.
