The Two-Photon Laser Excitation System for Rydberg-Ions will serve to establish long-range strong interactions in cold trapped ions crytsals, in the field of quantum optics and quantum technologies. Specifically, we aim for (a) quantum logic operations between single ions which serve as qubits, (b) implementing quantum simulation in ion crystals and (c) the control a sudden switching of interaction for investigations of non-equilibrium states in many-particle quantum systems. The laser system will be an excellent tool to control laser excitations of Rydberg-ions with high efficiency and speed.
