Through a unique collaboration Timmers and Schilling will develop and implement innovative methodologies and work-flows for functional mass spectrometry of clinically-relevant proteins in targeted and quantitative approaches in the areas of epigenetics, transcription control and cancer. To fulfill these goals 'state-of-the-art' mass spectrometry instrumentation is required of the following specifications:- Highly accurate determination of peptide/protein masses at ultra-high resolution- Ultra-fast scan speeds of complex samples to increase sample throughput- Top-down and middle-down proteomics of mixtures of post-translationally modified proteins like histones- Multiple ion fragmentation techniques to increase protein and sequence coverageThe requested instrument is combining three mass analyzers with rapid switching between four peptide dissociation methods (CID, HCD, ETD and UVPD) and detection at the highest resolution.
