Project Details
Mechanisms underlying changes in hippocampal information processing by neuromodulation (B12*)
Subject Area
Molecular Biology and Physiology of Neurons and Glial Cells
Term
from 2018 to 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 122679504
Our project will scrutinise how serotonergic neuromodulation impacts hippocampal information processing. We will investigate to what extent serotonergic input controls excitation/inhibition balance within the hippocampus, in a state-dependent manner, and how this contributes to subcortical and hippocampal information processing. Serotonergic neuromodulation will be examined on several levels: behavioural experiments in conjunction with optogenetics will elucidate the impact of 5-HT on memory and sensory information processing, whereas electrophysiological recordings in combination with state-of-the-art imaging techniques will reveal the underlying mechanisms
