Project Details
PECVD gas barrier coating for returnable PET-bottles (T04#)
Subject Area
Coating and Surface Technology
Term
from 2018 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 138690629
In order to equip disposable PET-bottles with a barrier against gases and flavouring substances for sensitive beverages, plasma polymerised coatings are widely used industrially. However, for reusable PET-bottles this not the case yet, since the conventional barrier coatings made of silicon oxide (SiOx) cannot withstand the cleaning process with sodium hydroxide solution (NaOH) in the reusing process. With the knowledge gained in the SFB-TR 87, suitable coating systems for this application will be developed in this transfer project in order to open the advantages of plasma technology to the field of reusable PET-bottles.
