The sub-project examines the connection between transformations of imperial and colonial orders and processes of securitisation in the history of the British Empire in the long 19th century. Interactions and conflict-ridden negotiations will be analysed on the basis of their local dynamics and with a focus on the significance of intra- and transimperial transfer processes. To this end, the two working assignments concentrate on the Anglo-French Caribbean (Caribbean slave societies of Jamaica and Saint-Domingues) and British India (administrative apparatus of the Indian Civil Service in its intra- and transimperial interconnections).
