Project A02 examines the coverage and generosity of work-injury compensation, unemployment, and old-age pension insurance from 1880 to 2020. Starting from an interplay of partially different national, international, and transnational factors, explanations for coverage and generosity are comparatively examined using autoregressive time series analyses, network analyses, and event data analyses. In addition, a case study on Bangladesh traces how social protection has developed in a country of the Global South. A randomized experiment is used to investigate how the targeting of social pensions in Bangladesh (as de jure coverage) is actually implemented and how it can be improved.
