Project Details
Bacteriophages of the Roseobacter group (B06*)
Subject Area
Metabolism, Biochemistry and Genetics of Microorganisms
Term
from 2018 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 34509606
This project will investigate phages infecting bacteria in the Roseobacter group. The aims are to characterize lytic cobaviruses with respect to genomic diversity and abundance in highly productive marine regions, the habitat of the cobaviral hosts and of the cobaviruses themselves and host range. The second part will characterize prophages in Roseobacter genomes with respect to their life style, ability to be induced and their inducing factors and host range. Four prophage containing Roseobacter strains will be used for in depth characterization of their prophages, especially with respect to life styles and genes involved in the temperate versus lytic states and phage-host interactions.
