Ultrafast spintronic devices (B02)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term since 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 328545488

In this project, we explore the generation of terahertz electromagnetic pulses based on laser-induced ultrafast spin transport and spin-to-charge-current conversion. We will make use of three complementary approaches to rapidly screen materials and structures in terms of spin-current generation, spin-to-charge-current conversion and THz-field emission: (i) An all-optical free-space approach covering the high frequency range 1-40 THz, (ii) a combined hybrid optical/electric on-chip approach covering the lower frequencies DC-2 THz, and (iii) nanopatterned THz-emitter thin-film stacks to tailor the shape of the THz waveform and use these signals for ultrafast transport and resonance experiments.
