Project Details
Bridging the time scales between ultrafast and precessional magnetization dynamics (A07)
Subject Area

Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 328545488
We explore the spin dynamics after ultrashort infrared-laser excitation of magnetic thin-film structures with a focus on systems containing antiferromagnetic materials. The goal is to gain insight into the interplay of ultrafast demagnetization, spin currents and thermal effects. In work package 1, time-resolved magnetic circular and linear dichroisms in resonant X-ray reflectivity will reveal transient changes in the spin structures of bilayers consisting of antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic materials. Lateral resolution provided by X-ray photoelectron emission microscopy is used in work package 2 to study the lateral propagation of excitations and the interaction with magnetic domain walls.
