Project Details
Nanometer-resolved ultrafast spin and electron dynamics at magnetic surfaces (A06)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
since 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 328545488
Spin dynamics at surfaces and in multilayers will be explored on nanometer and femtosecond scales by pump-probe photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) and two-photon photoemission (2PPE) spectroscopy. The dynamics of magnetic domain structures down to 20 nm will be imaged in PEEM by magnetic linear and circular dichroism with threshold and two-photon excitation. Complementary information for ultrafast electron and spin dynamics is provided by momentum-resolved 2PPE, which guides PEEM experiments. Main focus is on spin-current-driven magnetization dynamics in metallic ferromagnets and on ultrafast electron and spin dynamics in antiferromagnetic oxides such as NiO and Bi1 xLaxFeO3.
