My research project aims to analyze the formal design and uses of Hellenistic Greek temples. In particular, it examines their use of interior spaces: the project strives for a reconstruction of ritual and social actions in a narrowly defined space. Special attention will be paid to the meaning of architecture and interior decoration as focal points for these actions. In this context, temples are understood not only as sacred spaces but as spaces possessing multiple and complex functions in ancient life. In this way, the project hopes to make an important contribution, from an original perspective, to our understanding of temples as socially constructed spaces.
