Banks compete against and cooperate with other institutions in financial markets that perform similar functions but are not legally regulated as banks. The project studies the interaction, competition, and complementarities of banks and shadow banks in a broad perspective. This will include a strong empirical emphasis. The structure of financial markets matters for the transmission of monetary policy and also for that of fiscal policy. The project addresses different facets of this nexus.
