We investigate the determinants and consequences of economic beliefs and preferences. We empirically study mechanisms through which economic preferences are formed during childhood and adolescence. Furthermore, we assess the consequences of preferences on important life outcomes such as educational attainment or general well-being. We also analyze people’s beliefs about their own skills and preferences, how such beliefs are formed, and to what extent they are molded by the social environment.
