The goal of this study is to elucidate different mechanisms by which particulate matter (PM) released by vehicular combustion engines promote asthmatic allergic airway inflammation. The focus of this proposal is the role of Notch receptors on regulatory T (Treg) cells in enabling the inflammatory response induced by PM by acting to suppress Treg cell function, on their own and in synergy with IL4RR576, a pro-asthmatic interleukin 4 receptor allele.
