Project Details
The role of protein-lipid interactions for protein segregation in the yeast plasma membrane (A01)
Subject Area
Cell Biology
Term
since 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 386797833
Lateral segregation is a prerequisite for the regulation and function of proteins in biological membranes. We combine experiments and simulations to examine the role of cooperative protein-lipid interactions in the formation of elaborate patterns in the yeast plasma membrane (PM). In the next funding period we will characterize the self-association, clustering and segregation of transmembrane domains. We will also focus on the molecular and physical mechanisms underlying the formation of mesoscopic protein-free void zones in the yeast PM.
