The Landesarchiv Baden Württemberg (State archives of Baden-Wuerttemberg) has initiated a project to digitize a selection of ministerial records belonging to the archival holdings of its Hauptstaatsarchiv department. The project originated in the need of a centralized and digital access to German archival records in order to facilitate the work on a wide variety of research questions. The digital copies of the records will be made available on the online platforms of the Landesarchiv Baden-Wuerttemberg, of the Archivportal-D (German Archives Portal) and of the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek (German Digital Library). The selected records rank among the most essential documents of the 19th and 20th century and offer a wealth of top-level government material. They are already in great demand by archival users. Starting with the establishment of the kingdom of Wuerttemberg in 1805, they extend into the middle of the Weimar Republic until 1927. Since the documents cover all spheres of activities of Baden-Wuerttemberg governance, they will provide a broad range of evaluation options and perspectives. The project aims at the digitization of more than 1.100 microfilms and 115 original files and includes a metadata-based structure, the introduction of authority files and links to existing metadata. The project draws on the valuable experience gathered through the former project “Produktivpilot Digitalisierung von archivischen Quellen” and through many other digitization activities.
