Final Report Abstract

The work dealt with the generation of ionic, diazapentacenium-containing step ladder polymers and associated model compounds. Azapentacenes have five linearly fused aromatic rings and can exhibit semiconductor properties in the solid state. Due to their material properties, they are of interest for the design of electronic devices. The aim of the work was the synthesis of novel, cationic diazapentacenium polymers with high solubility and sufficient oxidation and photostability. A synthesis concept was developed for the generation of these polymers, in which first an open-chain (single-stranded) precursor polymer was produced via a Buchwald-Hartwig coupling, and then, the corresponding ladder polymer, was produced in a polymer-analogous cyclization step. The acid used here also defines the counterion to the cationically charged polymer backbone. For a detailed analysis of the cationic diazapentacenium polymers two model compounds were prepared and intensively examined for aggregation effects.
