Project Details
The role of heparan sulfate proteoglycans during zebrafish bone regeneration (B11*)
Subject Area
Developmental Biology
Term
from 2017 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 59307082
F. Knopf and M. Brand focus on the bone regeneration and glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIO) using zebrafish as a model. Their goals are to investigate the FGF (fibroblast growth factor) signaling pathway and the interaction of FGF with heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPG), and to establish FGF morphogenetic gradients, because of their importance for normal and osteoporotic bone regeneration. These results provide insights into the interaction of HSPG and FGFs during adult bone regeneration after trauma and its modulation by glucocorticoids.
