The project comprises two distinct investigations. One is a comparative study of personnel decisions in the early modern Papal States and seeks to provide a broader understanding of the coexistence of different modes of personnel decisions in one territory across the full range of key societal positions. The second investigation focuses on legal removals from office of key personnel considered to have failed in its task in ecclesiastical and urban context.
