This proposal is subdivided into two key objectives. At first we plan to extend our previous work on core-shell-shell nanoparticles in order to generate complex nanoparticles consisting of multiple alternating layers of alkaline earth carbonates and silica. The second part of this project aims at the synthesis of nanoparticles of functional metal (hydr)oxides, sulfides and carbonates, preferably in stabilized amorphous or disordered states, and their subsequent coating with a protective layer of silica.
