The scientific network of seven junior researchers aims at compiling a systematic and comprehensive compendium of memory studies in the social sciences. It is necessary to put this extensive field of research into order because of the complexity of social references to the past: Social memories operate on several levels of the social in multiple ways and complex constellations. To order the field of research we will identify, discuss and sort central theories, categories, conceptions und concepts as forms of socialreferences to the past. They are integrated into four preliminary sections: I. Concepts and theories; II. References to the past in social fields of action and order; III. Practices, schemes of action and objects of the past; IV. Method(ologie)s and interdisciplinary perspectives. The compendium will be published by Springer VS and will be coordinated in six workshops of the network.
