Project Details
Simulation supported NC-shape grinding as a finishing operation of thermally coated deep drawing tools (A05)
Subject Area
Materials Engineering

Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 16071898
For finishing thermally-sprayed coated deep drawing tools, NC grinding and magnetic abrasive finishing processes are used. In order to design the grinding process, a multi-scale process simulation is extended by modelling process forces and tool wear. This is achieved by modelling and simulating individual grains within a geometric-kinematic and an adaptive finite-element simulation system. These simulations will be capable of predicting the resulting surface topographies as well as the process forces acting on the grains, and thus the resulting pull-outs of the grains.
