Graph-structured data is one of the fundamental data formats that are studied in database theory and is currently rapidly gaining importance. The reasons are that RDF has become very popular for representing information about resources on the Web and graph-structured data is, due to its flexibility, becoming popular for analysing highly connected data in a data analytics context. In this project we want to investigate an important part of the underlying principles of graph structured data, notably foundations of schema- and transformation languages, foundations of grid-structured data, analysis and evaluation of queries, explanations of query results, and practical studies. A focus of the project is on navigational queries over graphs, optionally with transitive closure operators. The project is theoretically oriented, but also has a goal to bring theory and practice closer together.
