Project Details
Studies on the preforming of steel in semi-hot temperature range with modified carbon-based coating systems
Subject Area
Primary Shaping and Reshaping Technology, Additive Manufacturing
Term
from 2017 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 356851715
The aim of the research project is the development of diamond-like carbon (DLC) layer systems which can be used as wear-resistant coatings for warm forging of steel. In previous studies it was demonstrated that DLC layer systems have better wear properties than other coating systems lika (CrN). The aim of the second period is to quantify these properties and to increase the wear resistance of the DLC layer systems.Based on the results of the first project period the DLC layers will be further developed. To do that three different approaches will be used. To characterize the wear process, the most suitable coating systems will be studied in long-term tests . In addition to the first period different workpiece temperatures will be investigated. Furthermore the influence of lubricants will be investigated. Finally, the results of the second funding will be used to extend the wear model of the first funding period.
