Candida albicans ist der bedeutendste Erreger von ernsten Pilzerkrankungen des Menschen. In einem deutsch-indischen Gemeinschaftsprojekt gefördert durch DFG und DST wurde die Regulation von Genen untersucht, die für die Resistenz von C. albicans notwendig sind. In der Arbeitsgruppe Düsseldorf wurde die Expression der fünf PMT-Gene analysiert, die die O-Mannosylierung sekretorischer Proteine und gleichzeitig Antimykotika-Resistenz bewirken. Für die Expression des PMT1 ergab sich unter Stressbedingungen eine Regulation auf der Ebene der Transkription und dafür erforderliche Promotorsequenzen wurden identifiziert. Für die Expression der PMT2- und PMT4-Gene ergab sich demgegenüber ein posttranskriptioneller Regulationsmechanismus.
