The ethnographic project investigates experiences of otium of pensioners. By destabilizing biograph-ical orders and subsequently renegotiating them, otium acquires a special relevance, since it requalifies the time now available. The project elaborates the biographical dimensions of otium and assumes that pensioners, with an increase in freely available time, specifically seek new orientations and activities that are interpreted as meaningful, which are then placed in a paradoxical relationship to inactivity analogous to the concept of otium.
