In the 2nd phase, C07 aims at enabling 2D THz beamsteering using power-efficient photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for photonic THz transmitter and photonic THz receiver arrays. A key challenge is to invent approaches that allow to keep the PIC complexity for wide-angle 2D THz steering as low as necessary for power-efficiency reasons. In additions, C07 will extend the operational frequency range of the photonic THz emitters and photonic THz detectors up to 2 THz in order to enable wideband spectroscopy which is a crucial requirement for MARIE’s ability to characterize and classify various materials.
