Project Details
Predictive coding for tactile detection and tactile learning (A10)
Subject Area
Molecular Biology and Physiology of Neurons and Glial Cells
Term
from 2017 to 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 122679504
The overarching goal of the SFB is to understand how sensory information is integrated by the brain such that representations in the form of cognitive behaviour and memory result. In line with this goal, we shall investigate prediction-based decision-making processes involved in tactile detection, tactile learning and tactile memory formation. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging in healthy human participants, we shall run three experiments to explore the central nervous representation of prediction-based decision-making processes as well as their modulation by reward and punishment. We hypothesise that those decision processes are embedded in a recurrent network that consists of somatosensory brain regions, executive control regions, central reward regions as well as the hippocampus.
